Razvan Jurca is a wine critic and enthusiast from Bucharest. His goal is to broaden his own and his friends` horizons searching for above average wines to be found in stores (and not only there) in this country.
With a 10 year-odd experience abroad, where he worked in various vineyards and wine cellars from Italy, France and England (here he managed to turn into a genuine connoisseur), Razvan is now an international wine critic affiliated to FIJEV (Federation Internationale des Journalistes et Ecrivains des Vins), and a correspondent for Decanter London, Wine Spectator and a member of the snooth.com and mustlovewine.com communities. Since the spring of 2009, he's returned to Romania, searching for this country's remarkable wines - as his area of expertise deals with above average wines that he reviews and recommends. Today, Razvan writes for Vinul.ro where he signs Passe partout - a permanent column presenting exceptional wines from countries less known as wine producers, and works for an Advertising agency with a multinational platform that allows him to travel abroad quite frequently to follow his wine hobby.
"Recently (and I mean by that the last four years) I`ve had the pleasure of noticing a steadfast growth in the quality of Romanian wine (made both by local produces but especially by foreign companies who bought real estate here and brought international know-how and resources to this country) and in the concern for quality of the educated public. This made me very happy! At the same time, I have noticed slight, but benefic changes in the consumption behavior of younger Romanians, who are ever more keen on discovering new brands of wine than following the old cliches one has very few (if any) things to learn from.
Also, the ever growing presence of wine specialists and enthusiasts in Romania - those people who really lead the trend of promoting good quality wine - is to be noticed as well in still uncommon places, like Bruno, the wine bar that I really fell in love with! And it so happened not necessarily because of the good selection of wines one can find here (this being more than enough reason, by the way) but also due to the cozy atmosphere of this welcoming little bistro where, if you come twice, the third time everybody knows your name!", says Razvan.
So, if you happen to see this wine critic sitting at a table next to you, now you know his name and you can tell him what you think about the wine you are drinking or ask him for a recommendation that Razvan will gladly provide. And by the third time you`ll be talking to one another, definitely he will also know yours!
